Internet Off All Morning

The Internet in a Winnipeg residence has been turned off and service is not expected to resume until noon.  This is not a result of an unpaid Internet bill, but rather the initiative of the mother in the household.
“I took a look at my kids’ rooms and decided that they should do some cleaning before sitting in front of a computer screen.  The easiest way to insure that happened was to turn off the modem,” said the 36-yr. old mother.
The initial plan was to only keep it off until the rooms were cleaned.  However, when her request was met with attitude from her 11-yr. old son, she told him that it would stay off until noon.
When asked his thoughts on the matter, the boy replied, “I cleaned up my room right away.  I even apologized for being rude, but she still won’t turn it back on.  This is dumb.”
The mother of six is considering making no-Internet mornings part of a long-term plan to reduce the amount of time her children spend in front of the computer and other electronics.
“I don’t think the kids need to be in front of a screen all day.  Neither do I, for that matter.  It can be hard to muster up enough self-control to stay away.  If the option isn’t there, you have to do something else, hopefully something more productive.”
